RTW Condemns Supermarket Security Assault
RTW Group of Companies has barred a contracted security officer after a video circulated showing the officer spraying an unknown substance at a man inside the Fine Foods supermarket in East End, Tortola. The company said in a February 2, 2026 statement that it does not condone the behaviour, has removed the officer from all RTW locations and is conducting a full investigation.

In a public statement dated February 2, 2026, RTW confirmed the footage showed a contracted security officer and a customer and said the officer is no longer permitted to work at any RTW location.
The company did not identify the substance discharged in the video or provide further specifics about the interaction. "At RTW, every customer is our customer, regardless of mental capacity, background, or circumstance. We are committed to treating all individuals with dignity, respect, and care — without exception," the statement read.
RTW added that the conduct captured in the footage does not align with its standards and that it does not condone such behaviour from any representative of the business. RTW said a full and thorough investigation is under way to ensure all facts are reviewed and appropriate measures taken.
The company also invited members of the public to raise concerns directly through its official social media pages or via WhatsApp so matters can be addressed promptly. Social media accounts posting the video described the man targeted as a vagrant; BVI Live has not independently verified that description.
The footage has prompted public concern about the treatment of vulnerable people and the conduct of contracted security personnel in retail settings. Contracted security officers are commonly used by businesses across the British Virgin Islands to protect property and patrons. RTW’s statement stressed the company’s commitment to providing "a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for everyone who shops with us," and thanked customers and the community for holding the company accountable.
