RVIPF Urges Safe Old Year Celebrations
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) is urging residents and visitors to celebrate Old Year’s Night responsibly, remain vigilant, and take steps to protect themselves, their property and finances. Increased patrols will be in place across the Territory and the BVI Airports Authority has offered free parking for Trellis Bay attendees.
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has issued a public reminder for residents and visitors to exercise caution and good judgment as Old Year’s Night festivities take place across the Territory. Traditionally a time of social gatherings, increased movement and late-night activity, the night often sees people travelling between communities and attending events in town centres and popular spots such as Trellis Bay.
The RVIPF says it supports safe, enjoyable celebrations and is asking the public to be proactive about personal and property safety. Officers will increase patrols across the islands to support public safety and ensure a peaceful transition into the New Year. Members of the public are urged to comply with directions from police officers and event marshals.
Safety tips the RVIPF recommends include: Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Secure personal belongings and avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Arrange safe transportation in advance and avoid drinking and driving. Stick with friends or family and check in on vulnerable persons.
Celebrate responsibly and comply with instructions from police officers on duty. The force also acknowledged the BVI Airports Authority for making its parking lot available free of charge to those attending Old Year’s Night festivities in the Trellis Bay area. Motorists are encouraged to use the designated parking area, secure their vehicles, and follow the directions of police officers and event marshals to reduce congestion and improve safety for pedestrians.
For residents who plan to travel between islands or move late at night, the RVIPF advises planning journeys ahead, using reliable transport providers, and ensuring someone knows your travel plans. The force also reminds people to look out for elderly neighbours and others who may need help during the celebrations.
