Services Resume at Nurse Iris Clinic
The BVI Health Services Authority has confirmed services will return to the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic on Virgin Gorda after air-conditioning installation, deep cleaning and an air-quality assessment. Staff and equipment began moving back on February 18; the relocation is expected to finish within three days, with brief service interruptions possible during the transition.
The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has announced that healthcare services will resume at the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic on Virgin Gorda following completion of an upgraded air-conditioning system, a comprehensive cleaning and an air quality assessment to ensure the building meets safety and environmental standards.
BVIHSA said the physical works are finished and staff and equipment began moving back into the clinic on Wednesday, February 18. The relocation process is expected to be completed within three days as the facility is restored to full operational status. Officials warned that there may be brief interruptions to some services during the move.
Pharmacy services were singled out as particularly likely to face temporary delays while equipment, supplies and dispensing systems are repositioned and fully restored. The clinic’s closure in recent weeks stemmed from the need for infrastructure improvements and remedial works to bring the facility up to operational standards.
The disruption prompted concern among Virgin Gorda residents who rely on the clinic for primary care and other routine health needs. Health Minister Vincent Wheatley previously acknowledged the inconvenience and briefed the public on repair efforts. To maintain services during the outage, authorities erected a temporary field hospital — a purpose-built medical unit deployed while the clinic’s air-conditioning issues were addressed.
BVIHSA apologised for any inconvenience caused during the transition and thanked the Virgin Gorda community for its patience and cooperation. The Authority reiterated its commitment to providing a safe, comfortable and fully operational healthcare environment for residents and visitors.
For many on Virgin Gorda, the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic is a key local health resource; the resumption of services should restore easier access to routine care and medication dispensing without the need to travel to other islands.
