Tortola's distance running community returned to the pavement in strong numbers on Saturday for the Carrot Bay 10K, officially kicking off the British Virgin Islands' fall road racing calendar. Fredrik Seuffer claimed top honors in the 10-kilometer event, navigating the challenging course to finish in a winning time of 49 minutes and 3 seconds.

Seuffer executed a well-timed race strategy, overhauling early pacesetter Mark Stephenson on the demanding incline coming out of Long Bay before holding his lead through the finish line. Stephenson took second place with a time of 51:45, while seasoned competitor Katrina "Kat" Lindsay turned in an impressive display to claim third place overall in 52:33, leading the women's field.

Race director Kay Reddy expressed surprise and excitement over the high turnout, praising the community's enthusiasm as athletes shook off the summer break. The coastal route along Tortola's western corridor offered runners a scenic yet rigorous workout, serving as an ideal fitness benchmark early in the season.

The Carrot Bay race marks the opening leg of the competitive build-up toward the Territory's premier long-distance fixture, the 21st Deloitte-Ogier BVI Half-Marathon, scheduled for November 14. Organizers expect participation numbers to continue rising across upcoming tune-up races as both local runners and visiting athletes prepare for the signature autumn event.
