Unsettled atmospheric conditions continue across the British Virgin Islands as a surface trough remains in the local area, bringing heightened chances of rainfall and isolated thunderstorms through tonight and into tomorrow. According to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), the forecast calls for cloudy skies tonight with a 60 percent chance of showers and a 20 percent risk of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

Overnight temperatures are expected to settle near 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius). Winds will blow from the south at 8 to 15 miles per hour, with local gusts reaching near 30 miles per hour, particularly before midnight. A small craft caution remains in effect for marine areas surrounding the territory.

Sea conditions are expected to range between three and five feet. Marine operators, fishermen, and boaters navigating local waters are strongly advised to exercise heightened caution given the combination of moderate seas and sudden gusty squalls. Looking ahead to tomorrow, skies will remain generally cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers, primarily concentrated during the morning hours.

Forecasters expect weather conditions to gradually improve as the day progresses. In light of the current forecast, local disaster officials are urging the public to observe key safety precautions. Residents should immediately head indoors if thunder is heard or lightning is seen, and avoid open or exposed areas.

Homeowners and business operators are encouraged to secure loose outdoor furniture, signage, and lightweight items before stronger wind gusts develop this evening. Motorists across Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke are reminded to reduce speed, exercise extra caution on wet and winding roadways, and maintain safe stopping distances during heavy downpours.

Residents are advised to continue monitoring updates from the DDM as conditions evolve.
