Lingering atmospheric moisture across the Virgin Islands is expected to generate increased cloudiness and scattered rainfall today, according to the Department of Disaster Management. Forecasters project partly cloudy to cloudy skies throughout the daytime hours, with a 50 percent chance of showers developing mainly from the morning through the afternoon.
In addition to passing rain, meteorologists have noted a 20 percent probability of isolated thunderstorms across the territory. Daytime temperatures are forecast to peak at approximately 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Winds are expected to blow steadily from the east-southeast at speeds between 8 and 15 miles per hour (13 to 24 kilometers per hour).
Marine conditions remain relatively calm, with wave heights running between two and three feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters). As the day winds down and the sun sets at around 6:26 p.m., mostly cloudy skies are expected to linger into the night. Weather models indicate a 40 percent chance of late-night showers extending into the early hours of tomorrow morning.
