Sixth District resident gifted social home in
The Ministry of Health and Social Development officially handed over a newly built social home to Sixth District resident Marvin Malone on December 5, 2025, with the ceremony marking delivery just in time for the Christmas season. The single-storey house was designed by Shane Nanton (Bamboo Blue Prints), managed by Marquese Maduro (Project Management and Construction Solutions) and built by E & K Trucking & Construction Services Limited, according to the Government’s press release and local reporting.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development officially handed over a new social home to Sixth District resident Marvin Malone on December 5, 2025, with the key transfer taking place in the district just in time for the Christmas holidays, the Ministry said and BVI News confirmed.
The single-storey house was designed by architect Shane Nanton of Bamboo Blue Prints, managed by project manager Marquese Maduro of Project Management and Construction Solutions, and constructed by contractor E & K Trucking & Construction Services Limited, according to the Government of the Virgin Islands press release and reporting by BVI News.
Representatives from the Ministry, project partners, community members and local officials gathered for a formal handover ceremony to mark the completion and acknowledge contributions from all involved. During the ceremony, Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley expressed gratitude to the project team, contractors and partners for bringing the home to fruition. ‘‘On behalf of the Ministry, I want to thank my team, Mr Marquese Maduro, and everyone who played a part in this project, including the District Representative, both past and present.
It is an honour to be able to do this for our citizens. Mr Marvin Malone, he has been very patient and I thank him for that patience. This home right here is his Christmas gift. It is a beautiful and spacious home, and I am truly happy that he can now finally realise this dream of a new home,’’ the Minister said, according to the Government press release.
Mr Malone told reporters he was deeply grateful to the Ministry and partners and that receiving the home in December made the moment especially meaningful. ‘‘I want to thank the Minister and the Government for making this home possible. I am very happy to be receiving it in time for Christmas.
I truly appreciate everything that has been done for me,’’ he said, as reported by Virgin Islands News Online, Guavaberry and BVI News. Sixth District Representative Honourable Myron V. Walwyn, who helped press for the promise to be fulfilled, attended the ceremony and praised the speed and quality of the work. ‘‘I would like to congratulate Mr Malone, who has been waiting a long time for this moment.
Today, his life has been made better because of the Government’s intervention and commitment. A promise was made some years ago to provide Mr Malone with a home, and I was pleased to help ensure that promise was kept,’’ Walwyn said, remarks included in both the Government release and local coverage.
Project manager Marquese Maduro thanked the Ministry for the opportunity and said he was proud to see the project completed to a high standard, praising the contractor for attention to detail and timely delivery. Representatives of E & K Trucking & Construction Services Limited also expressed appreciation for the chance to deliver another quality home, the Government release noted alongside local reporting.
Former legislator Alvera Maduro-Caines joined officials at the handover. The handover forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable residents, improve housing standards and foster dignity, safety and wellbeing across communities in the Virgin Islands, the Government said.
