Strong Lineup for Salute to Service
Seven races are scheduled Sunday at the Clinton Phipps Sr. Racetrack in St. Thomas, headlined by a 7-furlong Class A feature and a 7 1/2-furlong Class B that will include Tortola’s 2024 Governor’s Cup champion, Ghostinyou. The card, organised by Southland Gaming VI, is a Salute to Service dedicated to US military veterans.
A seven-race card billed as a Salute to Service will run Sunday at the Clinton Phipps Sr. Thomas, drawing a strong field of horses and jockeys as organisers honour US military veterans. The feature event is a 7-furlong clash among Class A runners that includes Pure Speight, Unsociable, Laser Sharp, Friar Lawrence and Modern Lane.
Racing fans from across the Virgin Islands are expected to turn out to see the day’s top performers battle for purse money and local bragging rights. Race #4 will spotlight Ghostinyou, the 2024 Governor’s Cup champion from Tortola, who is entered in a 7 1/2-furlong Class B contest.
Ghostinyou will face Quincy Café, Royal Act, Mundo Mix and Buck Master in what promises to be a competitive mid-card showdown. Gaspard, Chief Operating Officer of Southland Gaming VI, told our News Centre. “Owners, trainers, and jockeys are all coming together to showcase their talent, making race day a full celebration of competition, community, and family fun.” Post time on Sunday is 1:00 PM, with the seventh and final race scheduled for a 5:15 PM start.
Organisers say the programme is intended both as a sporting event and a community observance, providing an opportunity for residents of the British Virgin Islands and nearby islands to show support for veterans while enjoying live racing. For BVI residents, the presence of Tortola’s own Governor’s Cup champion on the card adds local interest and pride.
The meet is likely to draw owners, trainers and spectators who regularly travel between the US and British Virgin Islands for events at Clinton Phipps, and it offers a visible reminder of the region’s close ties to St. Race-day particulars, including entries and pari-mutuel information, will be available from Southland Gaming VI and the racetrack on the morning of the event.
