Over 60 Projects Set to Transform BVI's
The Virgin Islands are set to witness a monumental infrastructure overhaul in 2025, as Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Kye Rymer, announces more than 60 road projects across the territory. This initiative marks one of the ministry’s most ambitious efforts to rehabilitate and enhance the road network, ensuring safer and more efficient transportation for residents and visitors alike.
In an ambitious move to revamp the Virgin Islands' infrastructure, Hon. Kye Rymer, Minister for Communications and Works, has unveiled plans for more than 60 road projects slated for 2025. This announcement was made during the Government of the Virgin Islands’ Mid-Year Retreat, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to improving the territory's roadways as a top priority.
The comprehensive road rehabilitation initiative spans across the Virgin Islands, with projects in Sea Cow’s Bay, Greenland, Sabbath Hill, Shepherd Hill, Mount Healthy, Fort Hill, Ridge Road, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, and Anegada. Key upgrades are also in the pipeline for Windy Hill and Fort Hill Roads, alongside the implementation of kerb walls and drainage solutions to enhance the primary road network on Tortola.
This extensive infrastructure overhaul is part of a broader set of initiatives aimed at modernizing the territory. The Government has already made strides in digital modernization with the launch of a Water and Sewerage Payment Portal and plans to expand online services at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Additionally, the introduction of new telecommunications technologies, such as satellite phone systems, is underway. O’Neal Administration Complex is also undergoing significant rehabilitation, which will not only provide more than 20,000 square feet of additional office space but also expanded parking and various mechanical and structural upgrades.
Rymer outlined the ministry’s priorities for the remainder of 2025 and into 2026, highlighting the rehabilitation of nine miles of roadway from the West End Ferry Terminal to the Road Town Ferry Terminal as one of the most significant road initiatives in recent years. Other objectives include the advancement of renewable energy through the Solar Technology Energy Programme, transportation and port expansion, airport upgrades, completion of the West End Ferry Terminal, and comprehensive drainage improvements across the territory.
These ambitious projects represent a pivotal moment in the development of the Virgin Islands' infrastructure, aiming to not only improve transportation efficiency and safety but also to support the territory's economic growth and environmental sustainability. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to a transformed and more resilient road network in the coming years, setting a new standard for infrastructure development in the Virgin Islands.
