TB Lettsome Airport Opens New Canopy
Motorists and travelers at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport can now utilise the newly constructed covered drop-off canopy. Airport officials noted that the structure provides weather protection and improves traffic flow, while reminding drivers that the area is strictly for active loading and unloading.
Travellers and motorists moving through the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island can now take advantage of the newly constructed covered drop-off canopy at the main terminal building. Smith, Acting Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA), confirmed that the facility is actively in service to accommodate passengers arriving at and departing from the Territory's primary aviation gateway.
The covered structure is designed to shield passengers from sun and rain while traversing between vehicles and the terminal, significantly enhancing comfort during peak travel periods. While welcoming the public to make use of the new amenity, Smith issued a clear reminder to motorists regarding traffic rules in the area, emphasising that the canopy lane is strictly designated for active passenger drop-off and collection rather than waiting or parking.
Drivers who need to leave their vehicles or wait for arriving flights are instructed to utilise the airport's main parking facility. Airport management stressed that keeping the canopy area clear of stationary vehicles is vital for maintaining smooth traffic circulation and preventing congestion in front of the terminal.
The installation forms part of broader infrastructure upgrades aimed at modernising the airport and enhancing the overall visitor and resident experience. As part of these ongoing improvements, the BVIAA also plans to relocate the facility's pay-on-foot parking machine to a more accessible spot, enabling drivers to complete parking payments more conveniently before returning to their vehicles.
While the project had initially been targeted for completion in early June, the Authority has brought the canopy into functional use as finishing touches and related site enhancements continue.
