Team VI Competes at Global Robotics Challenge
A delegation of young Virgin Islanders has arrived in South Korea to represent the Territory at the FIRST Global Robotics Challenge. The international event brings together students from over 190 countries to test their engineering, robotics, and problem-solving skills. Ahead of the official tournament, the team explored educational and cultural landmarks across Seoul.
A talented group of high school students is representing the British Virgin Islands on the world stage at the prestigious FIRST Global Robotics Challenge in South Korea. The international event brings together youth delegations from more than 190 countries under this year's theme, Igniting Innovation.
Ahead of the official tournament proceedings in Incheon, the Virgin Islands delegation spent their first full day engaging in educational and cultural exploration in Seoul. The students toured the renowned Starfield Library at the Starfield COEX Mall, observing how architecture, modern technology, and educational design can merge to inspire research and creativity.
In addition to technical immersion, team members visited the Starfield Aquarium and the National Folk Museum of Korea, giving the young ambassadors a meaningful introduction to Korean culture and history. Designed as an Olympics-style engineering competition, the FIRST Global Challenge tasks high-school-aged participants with designing, building, and operating robots to address critical global challenges.
The competition emphasizes collaboration across borders, encouraging students to utilize science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to develop practical solutions for shared global problems. For Team VI, the experience provides an invaluable platform not only to showcase their technical prowess but also to learn from international peers.
Engaging with students from diverse backgrounds allows the Territory's youth to exchange fresh ideas, explore novel approaches to complex engineering problems, and develop lifelong leadership and teamwork skills. The delegation is accompanied by dedicated mentors who are guiding them through registration and competition activities.
The Territory's participation in the event is supported by the Government of the Virgin Islands through the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, alongside corporate backing from Harneys, Exness VG, and Nagico Insurance BVI. As the tournament gets underway, the entire Virgin Islands community stands behind Team VI as they proudly fly the flag and demonstrate the Territory's growing capabilities in technology and innovation.
