Tenders Received for Hospital Signage Upgrade
The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) has received bids for the facades, signage and clean-up works at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, the agency said in a Facebook post on October 8, 2025. The submissions will be evaluated before a contract is awarded as part of the BVI Health Services Authority Infrastructure Improvement Project.
The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) has confirmed it has received tenders for façade repair, signage and clean-up services for the Dr. Orlando Smith Hospital building, the agency said in a Facebook post on October 8, 2025. According to the RDA, the scope of work includes the design, supply and installation of two new building signs to be placed on the hospital’s south and east elevations, together with cleaning and resealing of the exterior façades to improve durability of the installations.
The work forms part of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) Infrastructure Improvement Project, an initiative intended to modernise and strengthen public health facilities across the territory. The RDA said the upgrades will improve both the functionality and appearance of the hospital and “contribute to the overall goal of ensuring safe, effective, and accredited healthcare for the people of the Virgin Islands.” Bids will now be evaluated and a contract awarded to the successful bidder, the agency added.
Hospital signage has been the subject of political debate in recent years, with lawmakers in the House of Assembly questioning proposed costs and whether the project represents good value for money. Despite those concerns, the Ministry of Health and Social Development reiterated earlier this year its commitment to invest in the territory’s healthcare infrastructure, naming façade, signage and exterior clean-up among priority areas for the Dr.
