Tropical Fruit Festival Coming to BVI
The British Virgin Islands will host its inaugural Tropical Fruit Festival on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park. Organiser Arona Viancia Fahie-Forbes says the event aims to raise awareness of using local fruit both fresh and as value‑added products while promoting sustainable food production and healthy diets.
The British Virgin Islands will welcome its first Tropical Fruit Festival on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park. The one‑day event is billed as a showcase for local fruit and the businesses and producers who work with them.
Organiser Arona Viancia Fahie‑Forbes told Virgin Islands News Online the festival is intended to build greater awareness of the importance of using local fruit "not just in the fresh state, but in a state that would add value to our local food production." She said organisers hope the event will bring together vendors, producers, consumers and health organisations to celebrate and sample local produce and value‑added items.
Forbes emphasised the festival’s wider goals: promoting sustainable food production, encouraging healthy diets among Virgin Islanders, and helping small vendors gain exposure in local and regional markets. "We want people to see opportunities for producing jams, juices, preserves and other value‑added products that extend the life and value of our seasonal harvests," she said.
The festival arrives amid renewed interest in food security and support for local agriculture across the territory. For BVI residents, boosting demand for homegrown fruits — such as mangoes, papayas, breadfruit, guavas, soursop and coconuts — can create income opportunities for farmers, reduce reliance on imports and stimulate small‑scale food processing enterprises.
Attendees can expect stalls and displays from growers and food producers, opportunities to sample fresh and processed fruit products, and a chance to connect directly with suppliers. Organisers have also invited health organisations to highlight the role of fruit in nutritious diets and to offer information on healthy eating.
For vendors and producers, the festival offers a platform to test new products, build customer awareness and expand their market reach. For residents, it is an opportunity to support local businesses, learn about seasonal fruit availability and discover ways to incorporate more locally produced foods into daily meals.
