USVI Woman Charged After Bottle Attack
A St. Thomas woman, identified as Janine Cryspin, has been charged after allegedly striking her boyfriend in the face with a glass beer bottle on November 27. Virgin Islands has been charged after an alleged domestic assault in which her partner was struck in the face with a glass beer bottle, authorities reported. According to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), police responded on the evening of November 27 to Schneider Regional Medical Center in St.
Thomas, where they found the injured man with blood on his face, neck, shirt and pants. The man told officers that the woman, identified as Janine Cryspin, called earlier asking for a ride from Frenchtown to Hospital Ground. He said the pair argued in the vehicle after he became upset that she ignored him and had not prepared food for him while she was delivering to friends.
The dispute reportedly continued until they reached Hospital Ground, where the man told police Ms. Cryspin picked up a glass beer bottle and struck him in the face. He later noticed heavy bleeding and went to the hospital for treatment; medical staff closed a large laceration between his eyebrows with stitches and staples.
Cryspin after she jumped out of the car and tried to flee, and that bystanders gathered and confronted her before she escaped. He also told police he wiped some of his blood onto the woman’s dress to help identify her as the suspect. Cryspin did not surrender immediately; she went to the Domestic Violence Unit on December 4 to give a statement and was arrested.
Cryspin has been charged with third-degree assault and simple assault, both as domestic violence offenses, and with disturbance of the peace. Local reporting described the assault charge as a felony; she was remanded into custody pending her advice-of-rights hearing.
