The VG Bayside Blazers have emerged victorious at the 2026 Bring Ya Best Basketball Tournament in Dutch St. Maarten, capturing the championship title alongside the 20,000-dollar grand prize. The Virgin Gorda squad capped off a flawless, undefeated campaign by defeating Haiti 87-75 in the final showdown at the LB Scott Auditorium.
In the championship encounter, the Blazers showcased balanced team depth to overcome a competitive Haitian roster. Sanders led the scoring charge for the Blazers, finishing with 13 points each. Despite a valiant 24-point effort from Haiti's D. Jean, the Virgin Gorda squad maintained control down the stretch to seal the victory.
In addition to the team title, Blazers play-caller Randy M. George received the tournament's Best Head Coach award. Managed and owned by Julian Willock, with coaching duties handled by George and Trevor M. Stevens, commonly known as West, the Bayside Blazers reinforced their reputation as one of the premier basketball units assembled to represent the Virgin Islands in regional competition.
The path to the final required the Blazers to overcome a fierce semifinal test against fellow territory competitors. In what was billed as a highly anticipated clash of the Virgins, the Blazers defeated the Tortola team, coached by Ronald Simmons, aka Gola, by a final score of 93-85.
Edwin starred in that matchup with a 20-point performance, supported by Kerry T. Richardson with 16 points and five rebounds, and Sanders with 14 points. Tortola put up a resilient fight led by D. Morton's 18 points before moving on to the third-place game against the United States.
The tournament triumph highlights the depth of basketball talent across the Virgin Islands and delivers a major sporting accolade to the Virgin Gorda community.
