Restoration efforts on the roof of the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic in Virgin Gorda are moving forward, with health authorities projecting project completion by January. According to an update from the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), contractors have successfully removed the deteriorated roof membrane and installed a sacrificial protective layer.

The project team is now awaiting the delivery of a new, permanent roofing membrane, which is scheduled to arrive on-site within three weeks following consultations with the contractor. While awaiting the specialized materials, work is continuing without pause on the galvanised sections of the medical facility's roof.

The BVIHSA noted that, barring any unforeseen delays or severe weather disruptions, the entire repair project is on schedule to conclude early next year. These essential structural works follow the temporary relocation of clinical services in September. The decision to shift patient care was made after an environmental assessment raised concerns regarding indoor air quality inside the facility, prompting the engagement of Professional Roofing to carry out comprehensive remediation.

The Authority extended its appreciation to staff members, patients, and the broader Virgin Gorda community for their ongoing understanding and cooperation. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that public healthcare services across the Sister Islands are delivered in safe, healthy, and resilient environments.
