VG Man Charged With Assaulting Partner
A 23-year-old Virgin Gorda man has been arrested and charged following an alleged domestic assault against his girlfriend in Road Town. The victim sustained facial injuries and had personal property destroyed during the altercation. The accused was released on bail ahead of an upcoming appearance in the Magistrate's Court.
A 23-year-old Virgin Gorda man is facing criminal charges after allegedly attacking his girlfriend during a dispute in Road Town, leaving her with notable facial injuries and destroying her personal property. According to reports, the victim had traveled from Virgin Gorda to Tortola after being invited by the accused to spend the day together.
The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for approximately five months. However, the outing took a violent turn toward the end of the day while the two were sitting inside a vehicle parked in the capital. During an escalating argument, the suspect allegedly struck the woman in the face.
The physical blow caused her nose to bleed and left her left eye bruised and swollen. The altercation continued outside the vehicle, where the victim's shirt was torn. Investigators also learned that the accused allegedly seized the woman's mobile phone and threw it from the second story of a nearby building when she attempted to recover her belongings.
Additional charges related to criminal damage were subsequently laid against the suspect. Following the incident, the woman traveled back to Virgin Gorda, where she sought medical attention at the Iris O’Neal Medical Centre. Medical personnel treated her injuries before discharging her.
Law enforcement officers subsequently arrested the 23-year-old suspect. He was granted bail and is scheduled to answer to the charges before the Magistrate’s Court later this year. The incident underscores persistent concerns across the British Virgin Islands regarding intimate partner violence and domestic abuse, reinforcing calls from authorities and community advocates for victims to seek support and for perpetrators to be held legally accountable.
