VI Archers Shine at Rushmore Rumble
Virgin Islands archers Georges and Xavier Buxo competed at the Rushmore Rumble in Indianapolis from January 9-11, 2026, with Georges taking third place and Xavier posting his best score in two years. The pair were supported in part by Shoot Tru Archery Supply and competed as representatives of the Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation.
Two Virgin Islands archers produced strong performances at one of the sport’s top indoor events, the Rushmore Rumble, held at the Indiana Convention Centre from January 9–11, 2026. According to a press release from the Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation (VIFAF), Georges Buxo battled through a challenging opening day to finish fourth, then climbed to third place on the final day to secure a podium finish and prize money.
He closed the event with an overall average of 9.25. Younger teammate Xavier Buxo used the competition to test new equipment and posted an 8.4 average — his best score in two years of competition. VIFAF said Xavier used the outing as preparation for two major upcoming targets: the 2026 Vegas Shoot and the Virgin Islands Outdoor Championships.
Participation by both archers was partly sponsored by Shoot Tru Archery Supply, a partnership VIFAF highlighted as important for helping local athletes access international competition. The Rushmore Rumble draws many of the world’s top indoor archers, making the event a valuable test of skill and equipment against high-level competition.
For BVI residents, the results underscore the territory’s growing presence in field archery. Georges’s podium finish is a notable achievement on the international stage and a sign that athletes from the Virgin Islands can compete alongside more established archery nations. Xavier’s equipment testing and personal-best average also point to steady development among younger archers in the programme.
VIFAF has been active in promoting archery locally through training and competition opportunities, and these international appearances are part of a broader effort to raise standards and inspire participation at home. The federation encourages local clubs, schools and young athletes to follow the archers’ progress and to take advantage of upcoming local events such as the VI Outdoor Championships.
Residents interested in supporting the archers or learning more about archery opportunities in the Virgin Islands can contact VIFAF for information on training sessions, youth programmes and future competitions. The federation says continued sponsorship and community backing will be crucial as athletes prepare for the 2026 season.
