The BVI Netball Club opened their friendly Tri-Series campaign in Dominica on a high note, claiming a decisive 27-13 victory over Celtic at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium forecourt in Roseau. Shaquille Rose led the charge for Team VI, converting an impressive 17 goals from 27 attempts.
Teammates Clita Russel and playing coach Mandi J. Atack contributed six and four goals respectively to ensure a comfortable margin of victory. For Celtic, Akeelah Daisy led the scoring with six goals from 14 attempts, while Melissa Williams and Nyabel Pacquette netted three goals each.
Speaking after the opening fixture, Coach Atack expressed pride in the team's dominant performance, noting that the victory was a pleasant outcome given the lack of previous encounters between the two Caribbean destinations. She explained that because the Virgin Islands and Dominica had never competed against each other at either the national or club level, the squad entered the match treating it as a critical test to gauge the regional competition.
Atack also highlighted the broader significance of the tour, celebrating the ongoing rejuvenation of netball across the Virgin Islands. She commended the dedication of community members and organizers back home who worked to revive the sport and create competitive opportunities for local athletes abroad.
The touring squad representing the Territory includes Shenelca Richards, Fitsroy Randall, Liv Rees, Tammy Joseph, Abi Lamorelle, Abi Edwards, Flo Laidler, and Nyssa Darby, alongside Atack, Rose, and Russel. Action continues for the BVI Netball Club as they take on Bambish Toutweles in their second fixture.
The team will wrap up their Dominica tour with a highly anticipated showdown against the island's reigning national champions, Spartans I.
