Virgin Islands Posts Stronger Csec Results as
The Virgin Islands achieved an overall 87.4% pass rate in the June 2026 CSEC examinations, reflecting a 4.3 percentage-point increase over 2025 alongside expanding candidate participation. Mathematics recorded significant gains, climbing 9.4 percentage points in a single year to reach 62%, well above the regional average.
The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports has announced stronger Territory-wide performance in the June 2026 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) CSEC and CAPE sittings, marked by broader student participation and improvements across key subject areas. According to official data released by the Ministry and reported across local media, the British Virgin Islands recorded an overall CSEC pass rate of 87.4% for Grades I to III among graded results.
This represents a 4.3 percentage-point increase over the 83.1% pass rate recorded in 2025 and an improvement from 85.3% in 2024. Candidate participation rose 16.3% over 2025 and 27.4% compared with 2024, while overall subject entries increased by 23.8%. Fourteen subjects achieved a 100% pass rate in 2026, up from eight in 2025 and 11 in 2024.
The 100% pass list includes Agricultural Science, Caribbean History, Economics, Family and Resource Management, Food, Nutrition and Health, French, Industrial Technology (Building), Industrial Technology (Mechanical), Music, Physical Education and Sport, Technical Drawing, Textiles, Clothing and Fashion, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts.
Meanwhile, the combined candidate absence and ungraded rate remained steady at 5%, maintaining the sharp improvement achieved since 2024, when it stood at 9.17%. Mathematics demonstrated major sustained growth, with territorial pass rates climbing from 46.45% in 2024 to 52.61% in 2025 and reaching 62% in 2026.
The 9.4 percentage-point jump in the past year placed the BVI 19.85 percentage points above the regional average of 42.15%. Despite the progress, education officials emphasized that Mathematics remains a primary area for targeted intervention, with ongoing investments planned for teacher development, curriculum support, and student monitoring.
Other subject categories also delivered strong outcomes. English A earned a 95.7% pass rate against a regional average of 80%, business subjects collectively registered 93.2%, and core science subjects achieved a combined 91.6% pass rate. Technical and vocational subjects along with creative arts each recorded combined 100% pass rates.
Additional breakdowns reported by VINO highlighted subjects in the 90% to 99% pass bracket, including Office Administration, Integrated Science, Human and Social Biology, Information Technology, EDPM, Principles of Business, Principles of Accounts, and Biology. Subjects finishing in the 80% to 89% band included Chemistry, Spanish, Social Studies, Geography, and English B.
At the CAPE level, the Territory maintained its 100% reported pass rate despite a slight decrease in overall candidate participation. Lavity Stoutt Community College included Kayla Briggs earning Grade I in Biology Unit 2, Grade I in Chemistry Unit 2, and Grade II in Pure Mathematics Unit 2, while Tylah Blaize achieved Grade II in Pure Mathematics Unit 1.
In individual CSEC achievements, Juanita Jardine was recognized as the Territory's top CSEC student with 10 Grade I passes. Valisa Jardine of St George's Episcopal School secured nine Grade I passes and one Grade II, while Amber Hastings of BVI Seventh-day Adventist School earned eight Grade I and three Grade II passes.
Elmore Stoutt High School students Judith Case, Demique Dennis Hogan, and Sabirah Wheatley each achieved seven Grade I passes. The Ministry reminded the public that secondary students typically complete CSEC examinations across two academic years. Officials commended students, teachers, and families for their dedication and reiterated their commitment to targeted academic support across all grade levels.
