VISNA’s Power of Nurses Convention
The Virgin Islands State Nurses Association (VISNA) will host the Power of Nurses Convention October 22–24, 2025 at the UVI Innovation Centre in St. Thomas. The three-day event will bring nurses, students, health leaders and community partners together for continuing education, networking, mentorship and community-focused initiatives; BVI nurses are encouraged to register in person or virtually.
The Virgin Islands State Nurses Association (VISNA) will present the Power of Nurses Convention from October 22–24, 2025 at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Innovation Centre in St. The three-day gathering is designed to spotlight the essential role of nurses in advancing health equity, resilience and community trust across the Virgin Islands region. "Nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare," said Dr Suzette Lettsome, VISNA president and UVI School of Nursing faculty member. "This convention is a celebration of our profession’s strength, a forum for growth and learning, and a reminder of our responsibility to empower healthier communities across the Virgin Islands." As an affiliate of the American Nurses Association and the Caribbean Nurses Organisation, VISNA serves as the collective voice for nursing in the USVI, shaping national priorities to meet territory-specific needs.
The Power of Nurses Convention will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, interactive workshops and networking sessions aimed at empowering nurses and strengthening professional collaboration. Program highlights will include continuing-education sessions targeted at clinical practice and community health, initiatives to boost health literacy and rebuild community trust, and mentorship opportunities to support the next generation of Virgin Islands nurses.
The convention will also recognise outstanding service by naming Nurse Champions who have made significant contributions to local care delivery. Organisers are inviting all members of the nursing profession to attend, including certified nursing assistants (CNAs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses (RNs), nursing students and supporters.
Registration is available by telephone at 1-340-244-6874. Fees are $125 for in-person attendance, $65 for virtual participation and $10 for nursing students. In-person payments can also be made at the UVI Innovation Centre on October 22. For nurses from the British Virgin Islands, the convention offers a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues across the USVI and the wider Caribbean, share best practices, and access continuing education.
The virtual option provides a lower-cost pathway for those who cannot travel, while employers in the BVI are encouraged to support staff participation as part of workforce development and regional collaboration. "Our convention is a powerful opportunity to come together, exchange knowledge, and amplify our collective voice," Dr Lettsome added. "We are building a legacy of leadership, an impact that will not only inspire nurses but also touch the lives of every individual in our community."
