Walwyn and Dawson Hold Meetings
Sixth District representative Myron Walwyn and First District representative Dr Karl Dawson will hold community meetings tonight to outline planned works and take questions from residents. Meetings are scheduled for 6:30pm at West End Community Centre (First District) and 7:00pm at New Testament Church in Baughers Bay (Sixth District).
Representatives of the First and Sixth districts, Dr Karl Dawson and Myron Walwyn, are hosting community meetings tonight to update residents on infrastructure projects, service issues and development plans—and to take questions directly from constituents. Dr Dawson will meet residents of the First District at 6:30pm at the West End Community Centre.
He described the meeting as intentionally interactive, saying it is not an outdoor event so attendees can ask questions and engage with officials. Topics set for discussion include roadworks on main and secondary roads, water-supply concerns, education facilities including the former Isabella Morris Primary School site, and several major local development projects.
Tourism and cultural initiatives are also expected to be raised. Dawson said ministers are expected to attend and will respond directly to residents’ questions, and that “persons can raise questions on whatever issue they have concerns about in the territory.” Walwyn’s Sixth District meeting begins at 7:00pm at the New Testament Church in Baughers Bay.
He said several government agencies and officials will be present, including the Minister of Works, Honourable Kye Rymer, representatives from the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) and the new director of the Department of Waste Management. Key items on Walwyn’s agenda include the planned redevelopment of Sabbath Hill Road, where officials want community input before construction starts because of the likely disruption to residents.
Walwyn stressed the importance of hearing from those who live in the Sabbath Hill area about lingering concerns and practical implications for daily life and access. Also to be discussed are plans for a proposed fishermen’s landing at the Omar Hodge Fisherman’s Wharf and the long-discussed Baughers Bay exit road.
Walwyn said property-rights questions and route selection for the exit road remain unresolved and require community engagement to find the best solution. Cleanliness and waste management in the district will also be addressed, with an invitation for residents to raise specific concerns directly with the Department of Waste Management.
Both meetings aim to give residents a direct channel to government decision-makers and to ensure community input shapes how projects proceed. Residents are encouraged to attend, bring specific questions and raise any local concerns while officials are present to respond.
