Water Supply Disruption in District 3 Amid
Residents of Sea Cows Bay, Havers, and Pockwood Pond in District 3 will experience a temporary water supply disruption from September 9 to September 11, 2025, due to the construction of a retaining wall on Elevator Hill. The project, conducted by the Water and Sewage Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Works, aims to mitigate flooding and erosion.
The British Virgin Islands' Sea Cows Bay, Havers, and Pockwood Pond areas are set to face a temporary disruption in water supply starting today, September 9, until September 11, 2025. This inconvenience is a result of critical infrastructure repairs being carried out on a segment of Elevator Hill, where a 50-foot long retaining wall is being constructed to address ongoing concerns of flooding and erosion along the roadway.
The Water and Sewage Department (W&SD), in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Works, is spearheading this essential project. Acting Director of the Water and Sewage Department, Mr. Davis, shared insights into the project's significance through a recent Facebook post.
Davis highlighted the problematic alignment of the existing water main with the construction site, necessitating this temporary service interruption. 'The Ministry of Communications and Works is erecting a retaining wall here, approximately 50 feet in length, to further mitigate flooding and erosion of the road,' Davis elaborated.
He further mentioned that the existing water main, crucial for water distribution to the entire area, intersects with the proposed site of the wall, thus leading to the anticipated disruption. The project kicked off with excavation work on September 9, 2025, with the footing for the wall expected to be cast by the following day, ensuring a swift progression towards minimizing the inconvenience to residents.
Davis reassured the public, stating, 'Once the work is complete and the area is backfilled, we will be able to restore water service to the residents of Sea Cows Bay, Havers, and Pockwood Pond.' This undertaking not only demonstrates the ongoing efforts to improve the infrastructure within the British Virgin Islands but also the government's commitment to mitigating environmental challenges that affect the community.
