A weak tropical wave approaching the Virgin Islands is forecast to bring increased cloud cover and scattered showers across the territory. Marine conditions remain moderately rough, prompting forecasters to advise small craft operators to exercise caution.
Residents across the British Virgin Islands can expect an increase in cloudiness and isolated rainfall over the next 24 hours as a weak tropical wave makes its way toward the region. The approaching weather system is currently moving across the Leeward Islands and is supporting a moderate chance of shower activity throughout the territory.
According to the latest evening weather bulletin issued by forecaster Orvin Paige of the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services, conditions tonight will remain partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of brief showers. By tomorrow, shower chances are expected to increase slightly to 40 percent as the wave continues its westward progression across the area.
Breezy conditions will accompany the system, with easterly winds blowing at speeds between 9 and 18 miles per hour, or 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. Temperatures will remain warm, framed by a sunrise at 6:03 a.m. and sunset at 6:37 p.m. tomorrow. Marine conditions require vigilance from local mariners and coastal users.
Open water swells are projected to range between 4 and 6 feet, or 1.2 to 1.8 metres. Small craft operators, fishermen, and inter-island ferry services are strongly advised to exercise caution when navigating local waters due to choppy seas.
