Wheatley to Lead BVI India Mission
Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley will lead the British Virgin Islands' first Financial Services Trade Mission to India from August 24–31, 2026, aiming to deepen ties with Indian investors, regulators and fintech firms. The delegation will visit New Delhi, GIFT City, Mumbai and Bengaluru and take part in conferences, roundtables and government-to-government engagements, BVI Finance said in a July 31, 2026 press release.
The Government of the Virgin Islands is preparing to send a high-level delegation to India from August 24 to 31, 2026, in the territory’s inaugural Financial Services Trade Mission to that market, BVI Finance said in a July 31 press release. Led by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D.
Wheatley, the delegation will include Minister for Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE; senior government officials; representatives of the BVI Financial Services Commission and BVI Finance; and members of the territory’s financial services industry.
The mission will visit four centres of India’s financial ecosystem: New Delhi, GIFT City, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Organisers expect significant engagement in each city — more than 150 attendees in New Delhi, over 200 in Mumbai, more than 150 in Bengaluru — and the delegation will also take part in Money Expo India, which attracts around 15,000 attendees.
Conducted under the theme 'BVI-India: A Strategic Partnership for India’s Global Expansion', the programme includes major conferences, executive roundtables, business-to-business meetings, media engagements and industry dinners. Discussions will focus on investment funds domiciled in the Virgin Islands, cross-border corporate structures, access to international capital, trusts and family offices, succession planning, fintech and digital assets, and the BVI’s internationally recognised regulatory framework.
Alongside the commercial agenda, the mission will undertake diplomatic and regulatory meetings with senior Indian officials and institutions intended to strengthen government-to-government ties and clarify regulatory cooperation on cross-border business. India Trade Mission Lead Siobhan Flax, Associate Director of the BVI Government Representative Office in Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific Representative, described the visit as the culmination of several years of sustained engagement.
She said the office has 'opened important channels with government authorities, regulators and industry leaders' and is ready to translate those relationships into deeper commercial and regulatory partnerships. For BVI residents and the local financial services sector, the mission aims to expand the jurisdiction’s client base and raise the profile of BVI products and professional services in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
Officials say opportunities from increased fund formation, family-office services and fintech partnerships could support industry growth and reinforce the territory’s reputation as a well-regulated international finance centre. The mission marks a targeted effort to convert years of outreach into tangible business and diplomatic links between the BVI and India, with organisers in the final stages of preparation ahead of the late-August departure.
