Willock and District Three Committee Launch $3,000
Former Speaker and Third District candidate Julian Willock, along with his district committee, has launched the 'No Student in District 3 Should Go to School Hungry' initiative, donating $3,000 across three local schools. The programme provides discreet meal assistance for students through December 2026, with an additional $3,000 pledged for early 2027 and plans to further streamline the initiative next year.
Businessman, former Speaker of the House of Assembly, and Third District candidate Julian Willock, alongside the Third District Committee, has donated a combined $3,000 to launch the "No Student in District 3 Should Go to School Hungry" initiative, aimed at providing essential meal support to students across the district.
The programme was officially launched on Monday, September 14, 2026, after Willock and his committee were alerted that several students were arriving at school without breakfast or lunch, posing a significant obstacle to their daily learning and focus. Under the assistance programme, $1,000 has been allocated to each of the three beneficiary institutions: Ebenezer Thomas Primary School, the BVI Seventh-day Adventist School, and St George’s Secondary School.
The funds have been placed directly into the custody of the respective school principals, who will manage and distribute the support to students in need. To safeguard the dignity and privacy of families, the process remains strictly confidential. Parents experiencing hardship are encouraged to speak directly with their child's school principal.
Willock affirmed that any registered student at the three designated schools is eligible for meal assistance, regardless of whether their family resides within District Three. "As long as I am around, no child should be going to any school in District 3 hungry," said Willock, who also described himself as the proud grandson of the late Captain Joshua Leonard of Sea Cow’s Bay.
He emphasised that the committee does not need to know the identities of recipients or their home districts. The initial phase of the meal initiative covers the academic term from September to December 2026. Willock and the Third District Committee have pledged an additional $3,000 to be divided equally among the three schools for the term running from January to June 2027.
The committee also plans to streamline the programme, with further announcements expected next year. Willock extended appreciation to several corporate partners who contributed to making the initiative possible. These include Biras Creek Resort, Caribbean Insurers Ltd (Caribbean Insurance), Tortola Auto Group, O’Reilly Consulting & Associates, North Sound Enterprise Limited, and Caribbean Cooling BVI.
