In a commendable move to support education and reduce the digital divide, WIN BVI has extended its helping hand to 65 families across the British Virgin Islands through the Smart Start Programme. For the second consecutive year, this initiative has brought much-needed resources such as textbook vouchers, internet services, and laptops to families that struggle to afford these essential educational tools.

Alicia Green, the President of WIN BVI, highlighted the initiative's focus on community empowerment and its aim to support the educational needs of children who lack access to digital devices and other educational resources. The programme, she explained, is not just about providing immediate assistance but also about empowering families to leverage these resources for broader personal and professional development.

This year's Smart Start Programme was made possible through partnerships with several organizations, including DLT Solutions, Maples Group, O'Neal Webster, VI Logistics and Custom Brokers, Island Bargains, and FLOW. Such collaborations underscore the community's collective effort to address educational disparities.

Green shed light on the programme's dual purpose: to aid children's education and encourage parents to use the resources for their own upskilling and professional advancement. The unique offering of internet service from FLOW was highlighted as a critical component in achieving these goals, emphasizing the programme's holistic approach to family empowerment.

The selection process for Smart Start is meticulously detailed, ensuring that assistance reaches those genuinely in need. Criteria include employment status, household financial situation, and household dynamics, ensuring a fair and needs-based distribution of resources. Distributions were made at the District Four office in Road Town, Tortola, marking a significant step towards narrowing the digital divide in the BVI.

The initiative reflects WIN BVI's ongoing commitment to supporting the community through targeted educational assistance, showcasing the power of collaboration and generosity in creating opportunities for all.
