Winair Adds St Kitts-Barbados Service
Winair will launch three weekly flights between Barbados and St Kitts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, timed to connect with KLM’s Amsterdam–Barbados–Guyana winter service. The new route expands Barbados connections to four Winair destinations — including Tortola — and aims to make inter-island and transatlantic travel more seamless for regional travellers.
Winair has announced a new St Kitts–Barbados route that will operate three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, aligning with the schedule of interline partner KLM’s Amsterdam–Barbados–Guyana winter service. The carrier says the schedule synchronization will simplify connections for passengers arriving from Europe on KLM and travelling onward into the Eastern Caribbean.
Winair chief executive Hans van de Velde described Barbados as “a vital part of our regional footprint,” noting that adding St Kitts and Tortola as destinations from Barbados strengthens the airline’s presence there and improves inter-island links. For residents of the British Virgin Islands, the new link has practical benefits.
With flights now serving St Maarten, Dominica, St Kitts and Tortola from Barbados via Winair’s network, Barbadian travellers — and those connecting through Barbados — gain more options to reach Tortola (Beef Island) and other regional destinations. That expanded connectivity can shorten travel times, reduce transfers and potentially offer more competitive fares for travel between the BVI and eastern Caribbean hubs.
The move also creates improved onward connections for travellers heading to Europe. By matching KLM’s Amsterdam–Barbados–Guyana schedule, Winair enables smoother interline transfers for passengers flying from the BVI or other Winair points through Barbados to Amsterdam and beyond during KLM’s winter routing.
Winair currently serves 17 regional destinations with a fleet of nine aircraft — five de Havilland Twin Otters and four ATR-42s. The airline says the new Barbados–St Kitts service will complement its existing Barbados operations, which already include flights to St Maarten and Dominica.
Transport and tourism stakeholders in the BVI may see benefits from the added frequency and routing options if airlines and travel agents update schedules and codeshare arrangements accordingly. Increased connectivity often supports tourism flows, medical travel, business links and family visits across the Eastern Caribbean.
Winair’s announcement was reported by Virgin Islands News Online, which published details of the schedule alignment with KLM and the carrier’s fleet and route network information.
