Winston Bolus Basketball League Season Tips Off
The 2026 Winston Bolus National District Basketball League officially opened at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex with a full weekend of junior and senior division competition. Premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley inaugurated the tournament with a ceremonial free throw, highlighting community athletics across the Virgin Islands. Opening games featured strong performances and victories for Relentless, Run It Up, Skillfull Ballers Club, and Mt. Zion Stars.
Organized district basketball returned to the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town over the weekend with the official launch of the 2026 Winston Bolus National District Basketball League. Organized by the British Virgin Islands Basketball Association, the tournament commenced with four high-energy matchups played over two days.
Wheatley officially opened the tournament by taking the ceremonial first free throw. The season launch underscores ongoing efforts across the Virgin Islands to strengthen community athletic coaching, nurture local talent, and create constructive avenues of development for youth across all electoral districts.
Action began on Saturday with a Junior Division clash, where Skillfull Ballers Club cruised to a 79-27 victory over District Nine's On A Mission. Azani Frett led the scoring for Skillfull Ballers with 17 points, supported by Neshaun Frett with 14 points, four steals, and three blocks, alongside Azaniah Glasgow who contributed 13 points and five assists.
Caleb Stuart paced On A Mission with 10 points and three rebounds. In Saturday's Senior Division contest, District Four's Relentless overpowered VG Elite from the Ninth District in a 90-70 finish. Shakeem Blackemor anchored the Relentless offense with a game-high 29 points, while Devante Brewley added 16 points and Tavon Phillip chipped in 13.
Shamarr George led VG Elite with 24 points, accompanied by 14 points from Stephano Paul. Sunday's schedule opened with a tightly contested Junior Division game as the Second District's Mt. Zion Stars edged out the Eighth District's Young Empire, 54-49. Zion Phillip delivered a dominant performance with 25 points and 19 rebounds for Mt.
Zion Stars, while teammate Michael Sue posted 10 points, including seven crucial points in the fourth quarter. Jaleil Matthew led Young Empire with 15 points, while Ricco Bailey scored 12. The opening weekend concluded with Senior Division action as Run It Up of the Third District defeated Eighth District's Empire, 63-45.
Kymal Panchoo recorded a standout double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds for Run It Up, flanked by Jamal Serrante who added 15 points. Dreyonte Findlay paced Empire in the loss with 14 points.
