Young Innovators Awarded At National Science Fair
The Ministry of Education has concluded the 2026 National Science and Innovation Fair, celebrating student ingenuity across the Virgin Islands. Enis Adams Primary and Cedar International School took top honors in their respective divisions. The event featured innovative project exhibits, competitive drone challenges, and corporate internship awards.
The Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports has successfully concluded the 2026 National Science and Innovation Fair, celebrating the ingenuity, technical skills, and problem-solving capabilities of students from across the Virgin Islands. Centred around the theme "Innovate with Purpose, Create with Care, Solve for Tomorrow," the event served as a vital platform for young people to demonstrate practical solutions to real-world challenges.
The final day featured an array of interactive activities, starting with an aerial drone demonstration by Drift from the Cayman Islands. Students put their piloting and strategic skills to the test in a drone competition, with the Bregado Flax Educational Centre Secondary Division taking first place.
Creativity and financial literacy were also highlighted during the event through the Money Matters Piggy Bank Pageant. Orlandette Crabbe announced the major winners, commending the high standard of work and the dedication of the organising team, which included Mrs. In the school rankings, Enis Adams Primary School earned the Top School Award in the primary division, while Cedar International School captured the Top School Award for the secondary division based on cumulative scores.
Individual honours were awarded to Kay-Den Percell of Enis Adams Primary School, who secured the Top Student Award in the primary division, and Alexandre Wilson of Cedar International School, who claimed the Top Student Award in the secondary division. Other special recognitions presented throughout the ceremony included awards for Most Innovative Project, Judges' Choice, Best Display, Community Impact, and the Rising Star award.
Local organisations also partnered with the Ministry to present career-building opportunities. The BVI Electricity Corporation awarded "Golden Tickets," granting paid internships to senior students and job-shadowing experiences for younger participants. Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries presented the STEAM in Agriculture and Fisheries Excellence Award to celebrate projects advancing sustainable local industries.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Education Officer for Science and Physical Education Mrs. Renee Weston-Caines acknowledged the support of Minister for Education Honourable Sharie B. de Castro, ministry leadership, teachers, judges, and key sponsors including the Guana Fund, Seven Seas, Oil Nut Bay, Unite BVI, and Harneys.
